Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli launched

Luna Rossa Sets Sail: A Technological Marvel Takes Flight
Cagliari, Italy – The 37th America’s Cup campaign for Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli has taken a momentous leap forward with the launch of their new AC75 boat, hull number 10.

Christened “Luna Rossa” by Miuccia Prada after a traditional blessing by Monsignor Baturi, the archbishop of Cagliari, this magnificent vessel represents the culmination of 70,000 hours of work by a dedicated team of 35 boat builders.

A Feat of Design and Technology:

Clad in a striking silver livery, Luna Rossa stuns not only with its beauty but also with its cutting-edge design. The boat utilizes a staggering 3,500 square meters of carbon fiber and boasts a 26.5-meter mast supporting a twin-mainsail soft wing with an additional headsail, creating a total sail area of approximately 220 square meters.

Eight crew members will power this high-performance machine, including two helmsmen, two trimmers, and four cyclors who will generate the necessary human power for the boat’s lightning-fast maneuvers.

Patrizio Bertelli, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli’s President, expressed his pride and excitement:

“This is the tenth America’s Cup hull christened ‘Luna Rossa,’ a name that has become synonymous with Italian sailing excellence worldwide. It’s a beautiful and revolutionary boat, pushing the boundaries of design and technology. This achievement is a testament to the incredible collective effort of our entire team.”

Max Sirena, Team Director and Skipper, echoed the sentiment:

“Today marks a pivotal moment in our America’s Cup journey. This Luna Rossa embodies three years of relentless work and represents a truly Italian challenge in design, technology, and aesthetics. We made bold choices, pushing the limits of development and research, drawing inspiration from the LEQ12 prototype. It’s been a massive team effort, and I commend every member of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli for their contribution to this masterpiece.”

Beyond the sporting ambitions, Luna Rossa symbolizes Italian innovation and craftsmanship:

“Luna Rossa embodies technological excellence, competition, and the finest Italian quality,” stated Marco Tronchetti Provera, Executive Vice President of Pirelli. “We are honored to be associated with such a remarkable project driven by a passion for sailing and the America’s Cup.”

The Circolo della Vela Sicilia, Luna Rossa’s long-standing partner, also expressed their support:

“For the third consecutive edition, the Circolo della Vela Sicilia stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Luna Rossa in their America’s Cup challenge. We are immensely proud to see our burgee flying alongside the Italian tricolor on this incredible boat,” said Agostino Randazzo, President of Circolo della Vela Sicilia.

With Luna Rossa christened and ready to take on the challenge, the 37th America’s Cup promises to be an epic display of sailing prowess and technological innovation.
